International Surf and Health Festival

Description: The surfer-dude lingo may have some shaking their heads in wonder, but it's authentic to the South Bay area. Events include lifeguard, surfing, and swimming contests, as well as volleyball matches and sand castle competitions. Lots of local color and fun in the sun make this a popular event for area residents as well as tourists.

Playboy Jazz Festival

Description: Some 35,000 spectators will show during this two-day festival that includes 17 hours of non-stop music performed on the Hollywood Bowl's unique revolving stage. Featuring such performers as Dave Brubeck, Al Jarreau, Bruce Hornsby, Poncho Sanchez, Dianne Reeves, and Etta James, the festival presents a wide range of styles and genres. Bill Cosby has been Master of Ceremonies for a number of years.

Tournament of Roses

Description: This New Year's Day festival of flowers, music and college football is more than a just parade and a football game; it's the West Coast's New Year celebration and a salute to Pasadena's community spirit. The tournament headquarters is situated in a grand 18,500 square-foot Italian Renaissance-style house once owned by William Wrigley Jr of chewing gum fame.
