Gran Canaria

The Gran Canaria is the second most populated of the Canary Islands and it is located in the Atlantic Ocean. This is a very volcanic region and it mostly consists of fissure vents. There is only one airport in Gran Canaria but there are a series of highways throughout that make transportation easy. The Port of Las Palmas is the most important port on the island because it exports cement from a large factory and this is a big part of the islands revenue. The climate in Gran Canaria is warm almost year round, with the winter having a slightly cooler temperature especially at night. In the winter months some of the mountains might experience a slight dusting of snow, which is great to see if you’re spending it around this time. Rainfall is generally mild throughout the year with the end summer months being typically rainless. July, August, and September would be perfect months for a vacation due to the fact that they are usually completely dry.

The Gran Canaria

The summer months are usually very sunny with the southern part of the island being the most sought after destination but in the winter it can get slightly cloudy and cool. Most tourists like to stay on the southern side of the island because it gets less rain than the other side and it is typically sunnier. There is a large shopping centre on this side of the island as well as a number of beautiful beaches and resorts to visit. The Palmitos Park, a large bird park, is also on the south side of the island and it is a favourite destination of tourists. Even further south on the island are two little towns that are referred to as the "little Venice" because of how quaint and pretty it is. The majority of the island is protected natural territory which also adds to its beauty and excitement and encourages tourists to keep coming back year after year.
